The Department of Economic Security Division of Developmental Disabilities is seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to join our team as a Direct Support Professional. This position works with persons with developmental disabilities in structured daily activities designed to teach them applicable daily living skills. This position participates in the implementation of the member’s behavioral treatment programs; facilitates social interactions and activities and helps implement the member’s Individual Support Plan (ISP). This position attends ISP meetings, provides basic care and program reviews for the member; assists members with motion exercise under the direction of a professional therapist; makes and attends medical appointments; ensures the member’s health, safety and quality of life is in his/her environment. Responsible for maintenance of living environment; planning and implementing excursion and activities, dispensing medications, planning and preparing meals. In the absence of the supervisor, this position works as the lead or in-charge person; monitors and directs staff; provides staff training, ensures there is adequate staff coverage and compliance with required regulations. Flexibility in schedule (i.e., work different shift, overtime and change work locations) as these are 24-hour residential settings. Most schedules work nights, weekends and holidays. Requires lifting/carrying at least 50 lbs. and pushing/pulling at least 50 lbs. Shift differential rates are paid for 2nd shift (5% increase) and 3rd shift (10% increase).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
-          Knowledge of basic member rights;
-          Knowledge of supervisory techniques;
-          Knowledge of proper lifting techniques and proper body mechanics to enable proper lifting techniques;
-          Knowledge of member intervention and injury prevention;
-          Knowledge of first aid and CPR;
-          Knowledge of emergency plans;
-          Knowledge of medication administration;
-          Knowledge of reading and writing;
-          Knowledge of the Individual Support Plan (ISP) process and behavior treatment plan and principles;
-          Knowledge of data collection and documentation;
-          Knowledge of problem solving techniques;
-          Skilled in leadership, training and teaching;
-          Skilled in communication; both verbal and non-verbal (sign language)
-          Skilled in problem solving;
-          Skilled in planning activities designed to meet specific needs of individual members;
-          Skilled in providing routine medical treatment, (e.g., taking temperatures, applying dressings, etc.);
-          Skilled in proper sanitation techniques to eliminate cross contamination;
-          Ability to understand teach daily living skills;
-          Ability to care to and act compassionately while maintaining member’s rights;
-          Ability to remain calm and composed during emergency situations;
-          Ability to give and follow directions;
-          Ability to attend staff training and apply the basic principles of program training and data collection designed to meet the specific needs of members;
-          Ability to collect data in accordance with Federal, State and Agency standards and Individual Support Plans (ISPs);
-          Ability to learn state rules, policies and regulations;
-          Ability to obtain and maintain a Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card
Licenses and Certifications:
-          Employee shall have a valid Level One Fingerprint Clearance card issued pursuant to Arizona Revised Statute 41-2758.07 in order to work with children and vulnerable adults;
-          Candidates for this position shall be subject to a search of both the Child Protective Services Central Registry pursuant to A.R.S. 8-804 and the Adult Protective Services Registry pursuant to A.R.S. 46-459.
-          Employment may be contingent upon completion of a post-offer medical/physical examination and the agency’s ability to reasonably accommodate any restrictions.
-          In-state travel may be required. This position requires possession and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12). Employees may be required to use their own transportation as well as maintaining valid motor vehicle insurance and current Arizona vehicle registration; however, mileage will be reimbursed.
Qualifications:
-          Candidate must be 18 years of age to apply.
-          The ideal/preferred candidate will possess a High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) diploma.
-          Must be able to read and write in English. 
-          Must be willing to work weekends, holidays, overtime, and change work locations, when necessary.
-          Successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify), applicable to all newly hired state employees
-          Successfully pass background and reference checks; employment is contingent upon completion of the above-mentioned process and the agency’s ability to reasonably accommodate any restrictions
